Friday, August 8th, 8pm At the edge of the Millennium, The Dalai Lama of Tibet invited 40 of the West's leading, most innovative thinkers in their respective fields to his residence tucked away in the Himalayan mountains of Northern India to discuss the world's problems and how we can solve them. What transpired was unexpected and powerful, and was captured by an 18 person, 5 camera film crew. The Wakan Foundation for the Arts took its 18 person crew to India and shot more than 140 hours of video footage during the week-long meeting and exploration of the future of mankind -- enough gripping and beautiful footage to make a powerful and cinematic documentary. The resulting feature-length documentary, "Dalai Lama Renaissance," has already received a very positive response, and will be widely released and distributed in the second half of 2008. "Dalai Lama Renaissance" is narrated by actor Harrison Ford. Saturday, August 23rd, 3:00-6:00pm Imagine yourself as a sailboat, cruising though the sea of life. This journey can bring many different gifts, from sunny skies and smooth sailing to stormy weather and days of no wind. While all of these situations are part of the human experience, sometimes we feel despair when stormy weather comes into our lives unexpectedly, or repeatedly, or in a thousand different forms. Our reaction to these stressors can manifest as anxiety, depression, listlessness, or feelings of hopelessness which sometimes linger, like unwanted guests. Often we feel that our actions make no difference, which can lead to further despair. However, a specifically designed, regular yoga practice can invite feelings of well-being and happiness into the body, giving us a new perspective. Based on the research in Amy Weintraub's book Yoga for Depression, this workshop will explore some ideas on how we arrive at these feelings, and how we can use a specifically designed yoga practice as a life raft that will lead us to greater acceptance and peace. We will practice both calming and energizing breathing techniques, as well as meditation. We will also practice two different asana sequences. The first sequence starts slowly and builds momentum, designed to gently stimulate energy in those who feel depleted. The other sequence starts more vigorously to effectively channel anxious energy, then gradually slows down to invite calmness and peace to the body. The workshop concludes with an optional mini Reiki treatment, a Japanese form of healing touch that subtly invites healing energy into the body. Cost: $45 -- or Early Bird Special $40 if prepaid by August 19th.
