BHAGAVAD GITA 5 Week Course: Timeless Wisdom for Difficult Times

Instructor: AC Lambeth
The Bhagavad Gita is considered not only India’s most important contribution to world literature but also a spiritual guide for people of many faiths. It served as comfort and inspiration for Gandhi and was an important influence on the American transcendentalists, Emerson and Thoreau. For students of yoga, the Gita is an invaluable guide for answering the call of one’s unique life path and following the truth of one’s heart.
Literally translated, Bhagavad Gita means Song of the Divine. It is a short section of verses within the great Indian epic The Mahabharata and is structured as a dialogue between prince Arjuna and his charioteer, Lord Krishna during the heat of battle. Faced with the horrors of war, Arjuna throws his weapons down in despair and confusion and seeks Krishna’s counsel. In the stirring words of their dialogue, the Gita lays out the concepts of Dharma (one’s call and duty in life), Moksha (liberation), Bhakti (devotion), and the various practical paths of yoga (bhakti, karma, and jnana) for living with skill and grace in a world of difficult choices.
In this five-week course, we will not just study the book on an intellectual level but use the text as a springboard for advancing on our own spiritual paths, developing a personal home practice and extending the philosophy into the way we live. Through meditation, discussion, and journaling, we will apply the concepts of yoga to the specific challenges we face in daily life to understand, heal, and grow.
