Living Yoga Teacher Training FAQ

What sets LIVING YOGA TEACHER TRAINING apart from other TT programs?

LIVING YOGA is a program born from the belief that yoga is a way of living aligned with our innate divinity and our sacred humanity. Walking the path of living yoga asks us to meet with humility and gratitude the miraculous life we have been given, to evolve according to the guardrails of love, and to serve as opportunity presents. This program provides students with the practices and foundation to truly walk this path of living yoga.

Further, because LYTT is steeped in the devotional practices known as Bhakti Yoga and the non-dual view of tantric yoga, while participants learn basic anatomy, universal alignment principles, and study the seminal texts like The Bhagavad Gita and The Yoga Sutras, they are also encouraged through self-inquiry, meditation, and contemplation to express themselves, to tap into their own creativity, and to speak from their lived wisdom.

LYTT participants learn not only how to teach yoga classes, but to live yoga and in this way truly change their world.

Meeting for ten weekends in person and seven weekday evenings over Zoom, students explore and learn the full spectrum of yoga, including yoga asana, pranayama, bhakti, meditation, philosophy, and mantra. Each session focuses on a deity and mantra and covers the history of yoga, major philosophical foundations of the path, and the myths and stories that have delighted and instructed yoga students for centuries. There will also be modules covering anatomy, hands-on assists, yoga for all bodies, diversity and anti-racism in the yoga studio, as well as the practical business of being a yoga teacher. Wild Lotus Yoga Founder, teacher, and kirtan music artist Sean Johnson will also lead a special Bhakti weekend.

What are the requirements of LIVING YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?

In addition to attending all in-person and Zoom meetings, students are assigned reading and homework throughout the training. They will also hold multiple practice classes and several final practicums. There will also be volunteer opportunities to serve the larger community and expand what students understand yoga to be.

Who is eligible for Wild Lotus Yoga’s LIVING YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?

  • Anyone who wants to share the practices of yoga with friends, colleagues, family, or in a more formal way as a yoga instructor.
  • Anyone who has fallen in love with yoga and wants to experience immersive study.
  • Anyone feeling a spiritual calling who is ready to commit to the path of the heart.

What do participants get at the end of LIVING YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?

By the end of the program, participants will be able to instruct an All-levels vinyasa flow class clearly, efficiently, and in their own voice. They will also learn how to give dharma talks, weave in themes, give simple hands-on assists, and create yoga classes that truly stand out for their authenticity, inspiration, and well-roundedness. They will receive certification of 200 training hours from Yoga Alliance.

Who are the other participants in Wild Lotus Yoga’s LIVING YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?

One of the program’s greatest aspects is the gift of gathering with a diverse collection of people seeking a deeper connection through yoga. The insights, support, and companionship the community brings are invaluable on the spiritual journey, and often life-time connections are forged.

Is a payment plan available for tuition?

Yes. Payment plans are available to help make the program more affordable and accessible.

Do you offer scholarships or work-exchange programs?

• We offer scholarships dedicated for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color as one small way we seek to contribute to the fight against systemic racism, and the hope to widen yoga’s diversity and representation. We have offered these scholarships at Wild Lotus for the last 7 years. Our hope is to support the training of more yoga teachers of color who feel inspired to share the many gifts and benefits of yoga with the community. This scholarship covers 40% discount of tuition with the option of a monthly payment plan to pay the remaining balance.

Please indicate on the application if you would like to be considered for a BIPOC scholarship, as we have a limited number of them available.

If you are interested in making a donation to support our BIPOC scholarship fund, we welcome your support. Please email teamlotus@wildlotusyoga.com.

• Several need-based work-trade scholarships (at a value of $500 each) are available for applicants who have tremendous financial need who would not be able to participate in the training otherwise, and are willing to exchange for reliably supporting  us with work-trade tasks during our in-person weekends including set-up, cleaning, and breakdown. Please do not apply for this scholarship unless the funds received  make the difference in you being able to participate in Soul School.

Are books and materials included in the price of the training? Are there other costs?

A printed manual is included in the price of tuition. Students who are accepted into the training will also receive a reading/listening/media list. Some ways of lowering costs include purchasing used books or getting books from your local library.

When will my unlimited yoga classes begin?

As part of your tuition, you are eligible for unlimited yoga classes during the duration of the training. Classes begin after the opening weekend.

How much time should I expect to spend on homework?

Prepare for the training to be a big part of your day-to-day life during the course of the program. Homework will be between 5 to 10 hours per week, which may include reading, written assignments, meetings with small groups, and class observations. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. At the end of the program you will be given a take-home, open book final project to help you integrate and crystallize the content of the training. You’ll have a month to finish. If you wish to receive your Certificate of Completion for the course, you must complete all homework assignments.

Required reading for the program will include:   The Yoga Sutras, translation and commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda;
The Bhagavad Gita, Introduced and translated by Eknath Eswaran; and Tantra Illuminated by Christopher D Wallis

Absentee Policy–

What is Yoga Alliance?

Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. Some yoga studios and fitness clubs across the country require their teachers to be registered with Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently, there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

If you complete all the certification requirements for the training, you will be given a certificate from us, and with that certificate you have the option to register with Yoga Alliance or not.

When will applications be available, and when are they due? What should I expect after I send in my application?

Applications are available now, through this link. We take applications on a first come first serve basis and read them as they come in. You will be notified within 7-10 days after submitting the application. Confirmed applicants will be given the info to submit a non-refundable deposit of $500 to ensure your enrollment, and we’ll share information on payment plans with the first installment due 3 weeks before the program begins. We highly recommend not delaying the application process as we anticipate the program filling to capacity.

Are there refunds if I can’t finish the program?

There are no refunds once the program has started. If there is a medical reason or other complication that makes it too difficult for you to complete the training with your group, then we will offer you the option of doing the training at another time.
