Yoga Teacher Training Info & Hear From Graduates

What LYTT Is:

Living Yoga Teacher Training is an immersive, one-of-a-kind deep dive into the living practices of yoga.

Together, we practice and learn in-depth:

asana (postural yoga)
pranayama (breath practices)
kriya (evolutionary action)
mantra (sacred sound)
meditation (a daily, foundational practice of the Vedic tradition)
bhakti yoga (the yoga of devotion)
philosophy (as shared through the seminal yogic texts)
myth and story (the deities of yoga, their stories and meaning)
tantra (the non-dual viewpoint of the ancient yogis)
sangha (learning and sharing in community)

LYTT is a commitment to growth. When you step on the path of deepening your yoga practice, you give yourself the opportunity to discover your true potential and develop and refine daily practices to fully manifest it.

To become who you’ve always wanted to be. To become who you deeply are.

LYTT is an affirmation of what you value. In an age of cynicism, disconnection, and materialism, choosing to dedicate yourself to your spiritual, mental, and physical well-being is a powerful declaration of self-love.

LYTT is like taking a mini yoga retreat, not just once in a blue moon, but ten times in seven months. Taking the time for yourself to really listen into your own heart, commit to your practice, heal and transform in a safe and sacred space.

You not only discover yourself in a new way, but you will also discover a whole new community of supportive peers, fellow seekers, and life-long friends.

What LYTT Is Not

LYTT is not an online program, but an in-person experience. Trainees are committed to creating community together, learning from and with each other.

The in-person nature of the training allows for hands-on experience, real-time learning, and immediate and applicable feedback.

Your instructors are available to you with one-on-one attention, you get to practice teaching in real time with your peers on day one, and all sessions are structured as engaged and responsive learning.

LYTT is not a yoga-teacher assembly-line. You don’t memorize a script, you aren’t forced to copy-cat your instructors, and you don’t put on a yoga teacher costume.

LYTT is about discovering your own innate wisdom and refining the skills to express yourself with confidence and authenticity.

Our sessions on practical anatomy, physical alignment, best teaching practices, are not about learning to teach poses, but about learning to teach people.

LYTT is not a YTT box to tick. Our training is not about achieving a piece of paper or letters after your name, it is a journey.

We take our time so that our students have ample time for experiencing the transformative nature of the practices of yoga, fully understanding the principles, and assimilating them into their own lives.

LYTT is not a belief system. You’ll learn the philosophy and guiding principles of yoga while respecting its cultural and historical roots but without dogma.

Living Yoga is not about following a doctrine, it’s about learning a system of practices that help you follow your heart.

Whether you want to share the practices of yoga formally, informally, or not at all, LYTT is an experience that will change your life.

Is LYTT right for you?

The diversity scholarships dedicated for BIPOC are one small way Wild Lotus Yoga and Living Yoga Teacher Training seek to contribute to the fight against systemic racism, and the hope to widen yoga’s diversity and representation. We have been offering these scholarships for the last eight years. Our hope is to support the training of more yoga teachers of color who feel inspired to share the many gifts and benefits of yoga with the community. This scholarship covers 40% of tuition with the option of a monthly payment plan to pay the remaining balance.

Please indicate on the application if you would like to be considered for one of these scholarships, as we have a limited number of them available. We also encourage all scholarship applicants to practice at the studio to get a deeper feel for our approach to yoga. This will be of benefit as well when being considered for the scholarship.

The requirements in exchange for the scholarship are:

Have the intention to teach yoga after the program is complete.

Fully participate in the program, and complete all required work to receive the certificate.

Several need-based work-trade scholarships (at a value of $500 each)  are available for applicants who have tremendous financial need who would not be able to participate in the Living Yoga Training otherwise, and are willing to exchange for reliably supporting  us with work-trade tasks during our in-person weekends including set-up, cleaning, and breakdown. Please do not apply for this scholarship unless the funds received  make the difference in your being able to participate in LYTT.

Meet Our Guides

Anne Compton Lambeth

Lead Teacher Trainer

Anne-Compton Lambeth, ERYT 500 YA-CEP, (she/her) is the founder and lead teacher of Living Yoga Teacher Training Program and the owner of Wild Lotus Yoga. She is trained in Himalayan Kriya Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and Anusara Yoga. For almost two decades, Anne-Compton has been teaching weekly vinyasa flow classes, alignment-based workshops, philosophy courses, mantra and meditation courses, and courses for beginners, intermediate students, as well as advanced practitioners. She has mentored new teachers and led continuing education workshops for current yoga teachers. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing and for many years taught Writing at the university level and has written several novels and short stories. Her love of language and the manifestation and embodiment of spirit and the Great Mystery inspires her teaching and her own practice and writing every day.

Seán Johnson

Seán Johnson is the founder of Wild Lotus Yoga, Soul School, The Wild Lotus Band, and the Director of The Asheville Yoga Center. He has a Master’s degree from The Naropa Institute-Oakland with focus on teaching chant as spiritual practice, apprenticing there with south Indian musician and teacher Russill Paul, author of The Yoga Of Sound. Seán is the co-curator and coordinator of Putumayo World Music’s yoga music series, and a co-founder of The Auricle Collective — a global community of chant and spiritual musicians. Seán is passionate about his Irish roots and ancestry, a pillar of his spirituality. He co-leads online Celtic Spirituality gatherings and retreats in Ireland each year with his friend Mary Meighan, founder of Celtic Journeys. In his yoga teaching and teacher training, Seán loves to integrate Bhakti and Vinyasa Yoga. Bhakti is a Sanskrit word and a path of yoga that points to the universal human experience of connecting to the mystery of life through the depths of the heart. Many of Bhakti’s practices are devotional folk arts like singing, dancing, storytelling, poetry, and ritual that are meant to be accessible for all. When integrated with Vinyasa flow yoga, Bhakti can take the form of a devotional dance infused with depth, imagination, and feeling. In all these roles, Seán relishes creating a playful, tender, brave space for people to open their hearts and voices, and embrace their innate creativity.

Michelle Cassandra Johnson

I have a Bachelors of Arts degree from the College of William and Mary and a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. I have worked in several non-profits and served as an elected official and on many non-profit boards of directors. I have led Dismantling Racism Trainings with large corporations, small non-profits, and community groups, including the ACLU-WA, Duke University, Google, This American Life, The Center for Equity and Inclusion, Eno River Unitarian Universalist Church, Lululemon, and many others. I published Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World in 2017; I teach workshops in yoga studios and community spaces nationwide. I am on the faculty of Off the Mat Into the World, and serve as the Co-Director of 18 Springs Healing Center in Winston-Salem, NC. I was a Tedx speaker at Wake Forest University in 2019, and I have been interviewed on several podcasts in which I explore the premise and foundation of Skill in Action, along with creating ritual in justice spaces, our divine connection with nature and Spirit, and how we as a culture can heal. I lead courageously from the heart with compassion and a commitment to address the heartbreak dominant culture causes for many because of the harm it creates. I inspire change that allows people to stand in their humanity and wholeness in a world that fragments most of us. Whether in an anti-oppression training, yoga space, individual or group intuitive healing session, the heart, healing and wholeness are at the center of how I approach all of my work in the world. There are myriad of ways to work with me. I hope to support you on your healing journey and path towards wholeness in whatever capacity allows you to live your fullest life.

Dena Borman

Dena (she/her) is a graduate of Wild Lotus Yoga’s Soul School in 2016. It has been her primary focus and calling as a yoga teacher to develop her knowledge and skills around teaching yoga in an accessible manner, inclusive of all ages, all bodies and all ability levels. She has extensive experience teaching foundations classes and intro to yoga courses, chair yoga and yoga for seniors, adaptive yoga and yoga for people with disabilities, as well as mixed-level classes. Her passion and mission is to make yoga feel more accessible and sustainable for all people in all bodies. In all of Dena’s classes, you’ll experience lots of options for exploration, variation and adaptation, no matter where you are along your “yoga journey.” She provides clear and thoughtful instruction, paired with invitational cueing, so that you know you’re always welcome to explore what feels best for you as an individual–we are not “one size fits all” beings, after all! Off the mat, Dena is also a singer, is passionate about dogs, and enjoys spending time with her partner Dan.

Rebecca Crenshaw

Rebecca came to yoga as a musician, looking for ways to strengthen and understand and protect her body from the rigor of playing violin. She is a E-RYT® 200, RYT® 500, YACEP® yoga instructor with training in yoga therapeutics, anatomy and alignment, and skillful in both group and individual (private) yoga instruction. Her classes are alignment based and led from the heart, sprinkled with creative flows that encourage self expression. Through connecting movement and breath, we arrive in meditative states that slow our busy mind while still getting our bodies moving. Physical alignment is key – as the more we understand our bodies and the specific way we move as individuals, the closer we can tune into the messages it sends us everyday – merging body and mind. Off the mat, she performs with several New Orleans based ensembles and teaches private violin lessons to both adults and youth. rebeccacrenshawmusic.com

Kerrie Lee Partridge

I am delighted and forever curious by the ways we are interconnected – to one another, the natural world, and within ourselves. This has guided my exploration of the body and spirit, and my willingness to linger in the mystery. My sessions center agency and openhearted listening, inviting participants to deepen connection with themselves and compassion toward others. I’m a yoga teacher, organizational strategist, program evaluator, working artist, educator, and teaching & leadership coach. I have over 15 years of experience weaving together trauma-informed teaching, healing-centered practices, anti-oppressive strategies, and systems change. I hold an E-RYT 200 and have extensive ongoing training in guided meditation, sound healing, Kundalini Reiki, Bhakti Yoga, and Vinyasa Flow. My background includes an MPH in Global Maternal and Child Health and a BA in Education and Human Development. My trauma-informed work began in K-8 schools, where I led teams to design learning spaces rooted in safety, care, and connection. I’ve continued this path through yoga, education, and the arts, studying both the science and the spirit of how we heal and build a sense of belonging. My work is rooted in the belief that personal and collective healing are inseparable, and that yoga–when shared with awareness and care–offers us tools for nervous system regulation, tenacious tenderness, and liberation.

Lauren Best

I found my way to yoga first as a kid, in the pages of a book on yoga for children. I explored the asanas and felt curious and enchanted by how the experience brought a sense of calm and joy. Later as an adult, I took some classes and was further intrigued by the way my active and sometimes anxious mind would slow down and feel more spacious, with more clarity, from the practice. And how I’d feel physically relaxed and, over time, stronger and more flexible and balanced. Working as an occupational therapist for children and adults with a wide range of physical, cognitive and neurological challenges, I became interested in how I might be able to incorporate yoga’s therapeutic benefits into treatment sessions with my clients and patients. I studied Yoga for the Special Child with Sonia Sumar in Chicago, and continued training with her at Integral Yoga in NY. I was delighted by how the lessons I learned in yoga, including breath awareness and mindful movement, helped me personally and professionally. I moved to New Orleans in 2004 and was fortunate to find my way to Wild Lotus Yoga Studio, a place that felt like home from my first class. I trained in the first Wild Lotus Soul School teacher training in 2009. I am drawn to teach and practice gentle yoga. Touched by my deep love of language and poetry and music, my classes are designed to create a safe space to encourage exploration of movement with curiosity, self-awareness, and deep self-compassion without judgment. When we can offer ourselves this kind of kindness, it opens the door for more authentic connections with each other. I am forever thankful for the way this practice helps build community.

Frequently Asked Questions

LIVING YOGA is a program born from the belief that yoga is a way of living aligned with our innate divinity and our sacred humanity. Walking the path of living yoga asks us to meet with humility and gratitude the miraculous life we have been given, to evolve according to the guardrails of love, and to serve as opportunity presents. This program provides students with the practices and foundation to truly walk this path of living yoga.

Further, because LYTT is steeped in the devotional practices known as Bhakti Yoga and the non-dual view of tantric yoga, while participants learn basic anatomy, universal alignment principles, and study the seminal texts like The Bhagavad Gita and The Yoga Sutras, they are also encouraged through self-inquiry, meditation, and contemplation to express themselves, to tap into their own creativity, and to speak from their lived wisdom.

LYTT participants learn not only how to teach yoga classes, but to live yoga and in this way truly change their world.

Meeting for ten weekends in person and seven weekday evenings over Zoom, students explore and learn the full spectrum of yoga, including yoga asana, pranayama, bhakti, meditation, philosophy, and mantra. Each session focuses on a deity and mantra and covers the history of yoga, major philosophical foundations of the path, and the myths and stories that have delighted and instructed yoga students for centuries. There will also be modules covering anatomy, hands-on assists, yoga for all bodies, diversity and anti-racism in the yoga studio, as well as the practical business of being a yoga teacher. Wild Lotus Yoga Founder, teacher, and kirtan music artist Sean Johnson will also lead a special Bhakti weekend.

In addition to attending all in-person and Zoom meetings, students are assigned reading and homework throughout the training. Trainees will begin practice teaching on the very first weekend and will submit videos of their teaching throughout the training as well as teach multiple classes to each other.

  • Anyone who wants to share the practices of yoga with friends, colleagues, family, or in a more formal way as a yoga instructor.
  • Anyone who has fallen in love with yoga and wants to experience immersive study.
  • Anyone feeling a spiritual calling who is ready to commit to the path of the heart.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to instruct an All-levels vinyasa flow class clearly, efficiently, and in their own voice. They will also learn how to give dharma talks, weave in themes, give simple hands-on assists, and create yoga classes that truly stand out for their authenticity, inspiration, and well-roundedness.

Everyone will receive a diploma at the final Graduation ceremony, signifying having completed Wild Lotus Yoga’s Living Yoga Teacher Training, a 200hour YA Certified Training. Those who wish to register with Yoga Alliance must also complete all assignments as well as the Final Exam post graduation.

One of the program’s greatest aspects is the gift of gathering with a diverse collection of people seeking a deeper connection through yoga. The insights, support, and companionship the community brings are invaluable on the spiritual journey, and often life-time connections are forged.

Yes. Payment plans are available to help make the program more affordable and accessible.

• We offer scholarships dedicated for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color as one small way we seek to contribute to the fight against systemic racism, and the hope to widen yoga’s diversity and representation. We have offered these scholarships at Wild Lotus for the last eight years. Our hope is to support the training of more yoga teachers of color who feel inspired to share the many gifts and benefits of yoga with the community. This scholarship covers 40% discount of tuition with the option of a monthly payment plan to pay the remaining balance.

Please indicate on the application if you would like to be considered for a BIPOC scholarship, as we have a limited number of them available.

If you are interested in making a donation to support our BIPOC scholarship fund, we welcome your support. Please email teamlotus@wildlotusyoga.com.

• Several need-based work-trade scholarships (at a value of $500 each) are available for applicants who have tremendous financial need who would not be able to participate in the training otherwise, and are willing to exchange for reliably supporting  us with work-trade tasks during our in-person weekends including set-up, cleaning, and breakdown. Please do not apply for this scholarship unless the funds received  make the difference in you being able to participate in LYTT.

There are no refunds once the program has started. If there is a medical reason or other complication that makes it too difficult for you to complete the training with your group, then we will offer you the option of doing the training at another time.

A printed manual is included in the price of tuition. Students who are accepted into the training will also receive a reading/listening/media list. Some ways of lowering costs include purchasing used books or getting books from your local library.

As part of your tuition, you are eligible for unlimited yoga classes during the duration of the training. Classes begin after the opening weekend.

Prepare for the training to be a big part of your day-to-day life during the course of the program. Homework will be between 5 to 10 hours per week, which may include reading, written assignments, meetings with small groups, and video assignments. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. At the end of the program you will be given a take-home, open book final exam to help you integrate and crystallize the content of the training. You’ll have plenty of time to finish.

Required reading for the program will include: This is That, by Anand Mehrotra;
The Bhagavad Gita, Introduced and translated by Eknath Eswaran; Shakti Awakening by Sally Kempton; and Yoga is Skill in Action by Michelle Cassandra Johnson. Additional reading may be assigned.

Attendance at all weekend sessions and Wednesday Zoom classes is mandatory for completion of the program. However, all sessions are recorded via video for students to review if they must miss a session.

Funny story, many of us who are teaching now (including me!) did our first teacher training programs not in order to teach but because we loved the practice and we wanted to immerse ourselves in its study (ask our dear teachers Vera Lester and Dena Bormann, too). We had no intention of teaching; in fact, I even said to Seán several times before I did Soul School with him in 2008, “I’m not going to teach, I just want to practice.” He assured me that was no problem (but was there a twinkle in his eye when he said it?).

I had no idea I’d fall in love with the practice of teaching, and sixteen years later, here I am, not just teaching but owning a yoga studio!

And yet that first teacher training was so much more than a path to a new career. And many many trainees don’t end up teaching but find the experience to have been instrumental in shaping them.

So yes, although some of our trainees do go onto teaching professionally or just sharing the practice informally or incorporating the practice of yoga into their other work, some don’t. Many of our trainees embark on the journey to deepen their practice, to devote themselves to their soul’s path. Everyone, however, reports that the six months of study has changed their life, brought them into a deeper connection with themselves, allowed them to grow and heal and stretch in ways they never thought possible.

Whether you want to use the 200hour Yoga Alliance certification you receive at the end of the training to teach or not, the journey you’ll take in LYTT is one that will shift your entire world.

Absolutely! Yes, we practice the basic Yoga Asana (physical poses) and study anatomy and alignment to share them safely and effectively, but we also learn how to practice and share them in an inclusive and accessible way, using props, variations, adaptations, and alternatives. One of our students last year practiced often in a chair, and we all learned so much from her wisdom and insight.

In LYTT we put the concept that yoga is for every body into practice. Not only will we learn Anatomy and Alignment with Rebecca Crenshaw, who explains how both Universal and Personal Alignment principles work together, we spend a weekend with Dena Bormann on Yoga For Everybody, Empowering You To Teach an Accessible and Inclusive Yoga Class, as well as engage in modules on Trauma-Informed Yoga with Kerrie Lee Partridge and Yoga To Create a Just World with Michelle Cassandra Johnson.

More importantly, LYTT is a holistic Teacher Training Program, meaning we will spend as much time studying and practicing the other limbs of yoga, including meditation, breath work, various focusing techniques, including mantra, kriya, and mudra, as well as the ethics and principles of truly living yoga off the mat. The yoga asana are just one way the principles of yoga are embodied.

One of the things that sets Wild Lotus Yoga’s Living Yoga Teacher Training apart from other YTT’s is that except for seven Wednesday evening Zoom sessions, the program is fully in-person. Over six months, we meet for ten weekends at the studio: Friday evening, then all day Saturday and all day Sunday with an hour and a half lunch break each day. It is an immersive experience and therein comes much of its potency. We spend time together, learning the practices, sharing insights and wisdom, practicing teaching in person, and developing life-long friendships and bonds.

While there is nothing wrong with online experiences, being together in community, practicing hands-on and in-person, and the potency of this collective container in which we all learn and grow is incomparable. And especially in this day and age of disconnection, of screen overuse and digital fatigue, the power of such a live experience and the energetic transmission of wisdom in real time is invaluable.

Every graduate of LYTT says the community and the bonds they made with others in the program was most one of the aspects they valued most.

However, we also recognize that everyone has busy lives and that sometimes things come up. Therefore, we video record each in-person session, allowing for rewatching and making up absences.

The schedule for the 2026-27 program is posted here.

Please reach out if you have questions regarding your specific schedule and how we might accommodate it!

Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. Some yoga studios and fitness clubs across the country require their teachers to be registered with Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently, there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

If you complete all the certification requirements for the training, you will be given a certificate from us, and with that certificate you have the option to register with Yoga Alliance.

Applications are available now, through this link. We take applications on a first come first serve basis and read them as they come in. You will be notified within 7-10 days after submitting the application. Confirmed applicants will be given the info to submit a non-refundable deposit of $500 to ensure your enrollment, and we’ll share information on payment plans with the first installment due 3 weeks before the program begins. We highly recommend not delaying the application process as we anticipate the program filling to capacity.
