Welcome to Yoga

A Welcoming Space to Begin Your Practice

At Wild Lotus, we genuinely enjoy welcoming beginners into the practice. Our teachers are approachable, attentive, and skilled at guiding students with clarity and care. Classes are intentionally non-competitive, with an emphasis on listening to your body and moving at a pace that feels right for you.

Finding Your Flow & Building a Strong Foundation

Your first class can shape your perception of yoga, so it’s worth choosing thoughtfully. There are many styles and teaching approaches, and each instructor brings a unique perspective. We encourage you to explore a few different classes and teachers to find what resonates. If your first experience doesn’t click, don’t write off yoga—try another class. The right fit makes all the difference.

To help you get started, we’ve marked beginner-friendly classes on our schedule with a “B.” We also recommend our Intro to Yoga Course, which offers a structured, step-by-step approach to building your practice with consistency and confidence. If you prefer to begin at home, our On Demand Library includes Foundations classes designed to support you at your own pace.

Understanding Class Levels

Mellow

Designed for relaxation and stress relief. These classes are slow-paced, gentle, and accessible—ideal if you’re looking to unwind or ease into movement.

Mellow–Medium

A balanced blend of ease and challenge. You’ll experience a relaxing flow while being introduced to more dynamic postures and sequences, with plenty of options to modify at a gentler level.

Medium

A more active, well-rounded practice that builds strength, flexibility, and stamina. Expect to move, sweat, and explore a wider range of postures, including sun salutations, balance work, backbends, twists, and introductory inversions. Modifications are offered to adjust intensity up or down.

Spicy

A strong, fast-paced practice for experienced students. These classes require a solid foundation and body awareness, and include advanced sequences and multiple inversions such as headstand, handstand, and forearm stand. Not recommended for beginners.

Where to Start

Build Your Foundation

Mellow–Medium and Medium Foundations classes are ideal entry points for beginners. These classes are thoughtfully structured to introduce essential poses, alignment, and breathwork in a clear, supportive way. You’ll build confidence, develop proper technique, and gain familiarity with the fundamentals—creating a strong, steady base for your practice to grow.

Relax & Restore

Mellow Serenity, Restorative, and Evening Chill classes are designed to help you slow down and reset. Through gentle movement, supported postures, and stillness, these classes calm the nervous system and release built-up tension. Ideal when you need to unwind, they offer space to breathe deeply, restore your energy, and return to a more balanced state.

Grow Your Practice

Classes labeled All Levels and Mellow–Medium are excellent stepping stones as you progress. These sessions help you connect movement with breath while gradually introducing more variety and complexity. With options to modify along the way, you’ll build strength, flexibility, and confidence—preparing you for more physically demanding classes like Medium and Spicy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bring a yoga mat (we also have mats for sale at the studio) and a reusable water bottle. We have reverse-osmosis filtered water available in our lobby.

It is best to wear comfortable clothing that will not inhibit movement. Many people practice in shorts or breathable yoga pants, and t-shirt or tank-top. We always practice with our bare feet, so please leave your shoes in the lobby.

We have public restrooms you’re welcome to change in. There are places to store your clothes in each classroom. There are no lockable units available, but you may keep your valuables in the same room with you.

Please arrive early to sign in. We lock door 5 minutes after each class begins. Leave your shoes in the lobby. Turn off cell phones. Avoid wearing heavy perfume or cologne. Place props neatly back. In the lobby, please be mindful of the volume of your voice when classes are in session.

Yoga is a practice that can often help the body to recover. Be sure to tell your teacher at the start of class about your injury and she/he can be sure that you get the most benefit for your recovery. An injury can be a great learning experience. Make sure to take responsibility for your body and listen when it asks you to take a break or stop.

It depends! Many yogis recommend that students refrain from inversions during the first three days of their cycle to avoid countering this natural downward flow of energy. These include headstands, shoulder stands, and handstands. Our teachers often offer an alternative pose for those who aren’t doing inversions, but we leave this decision up to each student’s personal discretion. Others recommend practicing only restorative or gentle yoga during your cycle to help build back the energy that goes into the process of menstruation. Listen to your body!

No, but you’ll want to adapt it. Wild Lotus’ Prenatal classes offer safe and beneficial practices for this important time. If you are pregnant and plan to take “regular” classes, please notify your teacher and listen to your body. Avoid poses on your belly and flat on your back. Modify twists to be open, not closed. Backbends should be gentle, not deep. Relaxation pose should be modified to avoid lying fully supine (both hips and shoulders on the floor) for an extended period of time.

Avoid practicing with a full stomach, and drink plenty of water before class to remain hydrated through your practice.
Yoga is a process. Be consistent in your practice. Be patient and compassionate with yourself.
