Community Satsang: Santosha – Contentment

October 19 @ 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm

By Donation, NOTAFLOF

Instructor: Anne-Compton Lambeth

Join us for Community Satsang at Wild Lotus Yoga to explore through discussion, inquiry, and application of the principles of yoga, specifically the Yama and Niyama, how we can live each day with more connection and clarity.

In a time when we can feel isolated and alone in our search for meaning, purpose, and hope in a chaotic world, community is more important than ever. Satsang, literally meaning “truth through community,” is a way to bolster our connections to each other on the path of yoga and discover our own inner wisdom.

Each third Monday of the month, through community discussion facilitated by Anne-Compton, we will delve more deeply into the Guidelines and Observances of Yoga, known as the Yama and Niyama as compiled in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Two of the limbs of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, the Yama and Niyama are invitations to align more fully with our deepest values in the way we relate to ourselves, each other, and our world.

The Yama and Niyama we will study each month are

October 19: Satosha—Contentment

November 16: Tapah—Passion / Self-mastery

December 21: Svadhyaya—Self-study / Study of Sacred Texts

January 18: Ishvara Pranidhana—Devotion to the Divine

To open each satsang, Anne-Compton will share some inspiration or dharma on the Yama/Niyama of that month—its definition, an insight about it and/or how it may show up in our lives, a wisdom reading, sacred text, or poem—and a reflective question to open the discussion. The purpose of the discussion is to investigate how the concepts of yoga show up in our daily lives and to support each other’s evolution with curiosity, encouragement, and compassion.

All participants are encouraged to share their own experiences with the concept, and no previous knowledge of the Yama or Niyama or the Yoga Sutras is required. Anne-Compton may share resources for further study or practices to work with the principles beyond the satsang.

Wild Lotus Yoga will supply tea and cookies. Community Satsang is by donation, all proceeds going toward Wild Lotus BIPOC scholarship fund. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, however, and all are welcome.
